HAIR SALONS
If you visit a salon for the first time and are sent to have your hair washed before you have a consultation with your stylist, it’s a bad sign. Walk out. A good stylist needs to take in the whole picture- how you currently wear your hair, your body type, etc. if possible, we recommend scheduling a consultation before you make an appointment and pay close attention: Does the stylist listen to you? Does he or she ask how much time you want to devote to maintaining your hair and then offer style and color possibilities that excite you? Do you feel rapport? Are you greeted with a smile when you first walk in? Our survey respondents had wonderful experiences with Dramatics NYC. You’ll find a range of prices, depending on the length and the texture of your hair.
BUDGET CUTS
(ALL NINE LOCATIONS LISTED)
Dramatics makes a second appearance in our book because they are still the quintessential New York experience – friendly service, convenient, walk-in appointments and a cut, style and wallet-friendly price that keeps customers coming back. Founded over twenty five years ago by actors and hairdressers Rock and Ace, Dramatics now has nine locations throughout Manhattan, and is staffed with colorful, creative stylists with monikers like Martini, Elvis and Vixen. Bud don’t let the names give you the wrong impression: Each and every staff member is a licensed cosmetologist and a graduate of their rigorous training program, to give you a great cut, color and style, whether they’re a senior stylist, master stylist, artistic stylist, or certified master colorist. The atmosphere is fun and upbeat, yet still professional. “There’s no attitude here—if you need white wine, croissants, thick robes and a $300 cut, try another salon.” But if you want to pop in at your convenience and walk away with a flattering look that will grow out well and that works with your lifestyle, we think Dramatics is an excellent choice. Customers rave, “I’m in and out in under an hour “ and “Their prices make you think you can’t possibly get a good cut—but after twenty years of consistently great color and cuts at outrageously good prices, I am a customer for life!” Best of all, there’s usually a Dramatics Hair Salon within a few blocks wherever you are. In business since 1984 * Women’s Cuts: $19.95+ Single Process: $39.95+ Partial Highlights: $49.95+ Full Foil Highlight: $79.95+
